About Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity
Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity (IVHFH) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical housing organization created to build and sell simple, decent, affordable housing to low-income, working families. For over 15 years, IVHFH has been committed to eliminating poverty housing in Johnson, Cedar, and Iowa counties, one family at a time. In 2008, IVHFH supported 4 families, working with them to reach their dream of homeownership. In response to the flooding of 2008, IVHFH assisted more than 60 additional families to ensure their homes became safe and suitable habitats once again.
It costs nearly $100,000 to build every Habitat house in Johnson County, including the costs of land, labor and material. We rely on companies, service groups, faith organizations and community members to unite with us in supporting our community’s families, because everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable home of their own.

With the goal of strengthening our Iowa City community and the community within the Tippie College of Business, students, staff, and faculty are working to raise $50,000 and build a home for a local family in need. The College will accomplish this through a partnership with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity.
The first Tippie Build was completed during the 2006 - 2007 school year. It was the largest community service project in the history of the College of Business. Not only did the Tippie College build a home for Ballah Sanoh and his family in Iowa City, but 10% of the funds raised were used to build homes for two families in Ghana.
In 2009, the students will expand on the success of the first Tippie Build and build a "green" energy efficient home in Iowa City. Fundraising for the build will continue throughout the 2008 - 2009 school year. Construction will take place during Spring 2009 semester and the home will be dedicated in May before final exams begin.
